OBJECTIVE

The FXFL is a professional developmental football league that serves as a platform for the training of players, coaches, and referees. 5W executed a media relations campaign to announce the launch of the FXFL and its four teams to sports-enthused markets across the country.

STRATEGY

5W pursued national media highlighting the need for a minor league system for the NFL, while also focusing on local markets to drive fan engagement and grow ticket sales.

RESULT

For the initial introduction of the league in June 2014, 5W secured coverage with over one hundred national news and sports outlets, totaling more than 193 million media impression bolstered by publications such as The Associated Press, CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated, and ESPN.

In July 2014, the FXFL began announcing names and logos for its four teams, spurring trending hashtags on Twitter, the creation of multiple Facebook fan pages and coverage in regional newspapers such as The Omaha World-Herald, Boston Globe, New York Daily News, and Miami Herald.

Additional media campaign highlights include print placements in the New York Times, Sports Business Journal, and the Wall Street Journal. Press has resulted in over 10,000 tickets being sold, a partnership with NIVEA MEN, and a segment on The Colbert Report.
