Urban Retail Properties
Background: Urban Retail Properties Co is an independent, privately held company, and has been the developer for more than 75 projects, which include premier, shopping destinations and mixed-use products. Headquartered in Chicago, IL and with offices in Florida, Massachusetts, Washington, DC, New Jersey, Iowa and Texas, Urban Retail is also the nation's leading third-party real estate manager, managing over 40 million square feet of space in 21 states and the District of Columbia as well as providing consulting services for clients worldwide. The company was formed more than 30 years ago and manages a diverse portfolio that includes retail, office, residential and government projects.

Urban Retail retained 5WPR for a strategic Public Relations campaign highlighting its re-emergence as an owner/developer in the shopping center industry. From day one the 5WPR team created and executed a national PR campaign working with Urban's new partners including Rait and CalSTRS to highlight various aspects of Urban's renewal. The PR agency successfully secured key placements in WSJ's 'Plots and Ploys', multiple stand alone features in The Chicago Tribune as well as additional local TV segments featuring Ross Glickman, CEO of Urban Retail on First Business, and a cover story in the Business section of the LA Times. Additionally 5WPR strategically secured features in leading trade publications including Shopping Center's Today, WWD, Shopping Center Business and Retail Traffic to name a few.

Results: Due to 5WPR's relationships with the media they were able to put Urban's "renewal" on the map from national placements to key trade profile features, that translated into additional business leads and greater awareness within Urban Retail’s industry. The tremendous success of 5WPR's PR campaign has resulted in Urban moving away from advertising and redirecting dollars to public relations.
