{"id":2475,"date":"2015-07-01T21:13:48","date_gmt":"2015-07-01T21:13:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/new\/?p=2475"},"modified":"2022-04-26T19:46:13","modified_gmt":"2022-04-26T19:46:13","slug":"growing-gourmet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/new\/growing-gourmet\/","title":{"rendered":"Growing Gourmet: Key Takeaways from 5WPR&#8217;s Food and Beverage Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1650746242996000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2haADJR5s3VITkKjvrrkyj\">5W Public Relations\u2019<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/practice\/foodpr-beveragepr.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/practice\/foodpr-beveragepr.cfm&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1650746242996000&amp;usg=AOvVaw34oqUsSHU6D8lN_w5ESs_j\">Food PR &amp; Beverage PR<\/a>&nbsp;and Restaurant &amp; Hospitality Division hosted&nbsp;a thought leadership and insight-sharing event, \u201cGrowing Gourmet,\u201d&nbsp;at the close of the Specialty Food Association\u2019s Summer Fancy Food Show.<\/p>\n<p>With over 40 guests in attendance, the event featured a&nbsp;panel discussion with industry experts George Duran,&nbsp;celebrity chef &amp; author of \u201cTake this Dish and Twist It,\u201d Charles Passy, writer for&nbsp;<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>&nbsp;&amp; MarketWatch.com, Jaclyn London, MS, RD &amp; CDN, Nutrition Director for&nbsp;Good Housekeeping Institute and Stephanie Cain, contributor to&nbsp;<em>Brides, Esquire<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Specialty Food News<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the evening foodies, wine connoisseurs and industry leaders mingled to discuss trends and takeaways from this year\u2019s event. Of course, no food event is complete without delicious fare, which was not only provided by Duran but was prepared with flair during an interactive cooking demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>Between Duran\u2019s famous Grilled Skirt Steak with Guasacaca Sauce and a wine tasting, the night was filled with mingling and discussion.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>If you happened to miss it or need a brief recap, below are a few key takeaways:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Health Benefits<\/strong>: The discussion touched upon the continued proliferation of messaging in the food space. Attendees noted that with the many types of labeling being pushed on-pack and off, it can be difficult for consumers today to judge what is actually beneficial and what is branding. &nbsp;Chef George Duran laughed about some of today\u2019s \u201chealthy\u201d foods stating that, \u201cyes you can be eating an actual bean chip (corn and starch free) but when you compare the fat ingredients to a kettle cooked chip you are still eating a bag of potato chips.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Trends on the Rise<\/strong>: Panelists commented that food makers in the US continue to make everything into a snack, from chick peas to beets to flavored peanuts. Further, panelists noted that the \u201ceat local\u201d trend remains popular, as the \u201cMade in NY\u201d section of the event was well-attended throughout the show.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Does Packaging Matter<\/strong>: YES! The emphasis on packaging in the food industry seems to be growing. We are seeing a heavy emphasis on great package design and packaging today that look more like works of art. In terms of color, the panelists agreed that both bright and pastel colors were seen evenly throughout Fancy Food 2015.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All in all, <em>5W\u2019s Growing Gourmet event<\/em>&nbsp;was a huge success!
