Perhaps ESPN made things worse than they needed to be when they issued a public apology over comments made by announcer Brent Musburger while he was covering the Alabama v Notre Dame football game.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Musburger was obviously enamored by Katherine Webb, the girlfriend of Alabama Quarterback A.J. McCarren. Musburger repeatedly commented on the appearance of Webb, a former Miss Alabama, calling her \u201cbeautiful,\u201d \u201cgood-looking\u201d and suggesting that scoring a girlfriend as beautiful as Webb, is ample motivation for young boys to start practicing their football skills.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Musburger\u2019s comments were met with some criticism from those who were offended that Musburger would focus so much on one woman\u2019s appearance. In light of this backlash, ESPN issued a public apology saying \u00a0\u201cwe apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.\u201d But was issuing a public apology the best strategy for this public relations crisis. Ronn Torossian thinks not.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/about5wpr\/management\/ronn-torossian.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/about5wpr\/management\/ronn-torossian.cfm&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1651072058915000&amp;usg=AOvVaw38m4qOWDs5BbpCBkXXN3n8\">Ronn Torossian<\/a>\u00a0is a well sought after brand expert who runs the popular\u00a0<strong><u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.5wpr.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1651072058915000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1D7HH8a0vGp2DZgeAaG-UR\">New York PR Firm\u00a05WPR<\/a><\/u><\/strong>. Torossian cautions against \u201cmisguided political correctness.\u201d Torossian gives his expert opinion stating that \u00a0\u201cfrom a crisis public relations point of view, I think ESPN made a mistake by apologizing for these comments.\u201d Torossian explains that he \u201chas no idea what they are apologizing for.\u201d Obviously a former Miss Alabama is going to be a beautiful woman.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u>The one person who struck gold during this PR controversy is Katherine Webb. Miss Webb\u2019s Twitter account gained 100,000 followers during Musburger\u2019s broadcast.
