Last Friday, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the 5W Health & Beauty teams held the “Pink for a Purpose” in-office fundraiser and bake sale event. The event raised money for the cause. Having agreed to match any amount raised, 5WPR CEO Ronn Torossian, matched the money raised in the office.

After what was a highly successful Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser, 5WPR would like to thank everyone who attended the event and donated to the cause. Both teams baked delicious goodies and set up spectacular décor, making it a truly memorable event.

The money raised will go to BreastCancer.org, a non-profit organization that provides essential information about breast cancer and helps sufferers and survivors better understand and cope with their condition. The site also provides information to guide people after diagnosis, enabling them to make the most informed decisions and find the right treatment options for them.

BreastCancer.org is a comprehensive site, which offers a wealth of helpful, instructive information designed to support sufferers, assist in recovery and help us understand the complexity of the condition. It explains possible, often harrowing body changes, and addresses many issues faced by those diagnosed with the condition, as they make the difficult journey from sufferer to survivor.

BreastCancer.org also gives advice on managing medical costs, nutrition, exercise, understanding your immune system and managing the emotional and physical aspects of your life before, during and after your treatment.

One of the most important elements of the site, is the way it encourages women to participate in early detection plans and educate themselves about breast cancer. Ultimately, it emphasizes the need to get regular mammograms, the importance of which can never be underestimated. As well as providing information, BreastCancer.org serves as a continuous, dedicated fund-raising site, promoting ways to raise funds to find a cure.

When it comes to the fight against breast cancer, addressing and understanding important issues, as well as utilizing valuable resources, can make a big difference:

EARLY DETECTION

According to EarlyDetectionPlan.org, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. When breast cancer is detected early, however, the 5-year survival rate is as high as 98 percent. It further stresses that women should undertake frequent self-examination of their breasts and, depending on age, family history and overall health, schedule regular mammograms with their doctor.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES ABOUT BREAST CANCER

NationalBreastCancer.org offers a free, comprehensive guide about breast cancer and represents a valuable resource for those diagnosed with the condition. It is also helpful for those caring for sufferers, giving advice about care and support. This excellent site includes detailed educational videos and open forums, where women are able to ask questions about breast cancer, find support from fellow sufferers and be inspired by stories from survivors.

MAMMOGRAMS FOR WOMEN IN NEED
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is an organization which raises funds to help women in need get mammograms that they could otherwise not afford. The NBCF National Mammography Program works with facilities within their network, providing women with free mammograms, along with many other breast cancer related services. For women in financial need, who also need breast cancer screening, this is a vital lifeline and another weapon in the fight against breast cancer.

HOST OR PLAN A FUNDRAISING EVENT
Having fun while raising money for the cause is a great way to raise both awareness of and funds for the breast cancer research and treatment. Many organizations, companies, and individuals host events, such as breast cancer awareness walks, marathons, bake sales and charity auctions. Such events allow companies to raise dedicated funds, which are donated directly to the breast cancer charity/organization of their choice. These funds are vital for research as the search for a cure continues.

Remember, whatever your event, it’s all for the good of the cause, helping us find a cure for breast cancer.
