Part of the Kitchen Appliances AI Visibility Index 2026. Companion report: Small Countertop Appliances AI Visibility Index 2026.

Large appliance AI visibility is led by GE, which appeared in 61.6% of 552 returned answers, with a 95% interval of 57.5% to 65.6%. Whirlpool Corporation, LG, Bosch, and Samsung follow within overlapping intervals, so this sample does not establish that GE is more visible than those brands. The measurement covers refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, and built-in microwaves. It is part of the Kitchen Appliances AI Visibility Index 2026 and does not cover Countertop / Small Kitchen Appliances.

For brands, the practical issue is not a single rank. Perplexity, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude named the same brands at different rates. Citation evidence also leaned heavily on third-party publishers, while LG had the highest owned-domain citation rate among the leading appliance brands.

The opening pattern is broad recognition for the leading brands, but the sample margin means the top tier should be read as a competitive group rather than a settled order.

Which brands lead the major appliance leaderboard?

GE ranks first at 61.6% appearance, followed by Whirlpool Corporation at 58.3%, LG at 57.1%, Bosch at 55.8%, and Samsung at 51.4%. These appearance rates use 552 returned answers as the denominator. Frigidaire and KitchenAid form the next tier at 42.9% and 42.4%.

The leaderboard measures whether a brand was named, not whether an answer endorsed it. Yale Appliance appears at rank 12 with 17.2% appearance, yet its owned domain has the highest citation rate in the measured field.

Where do the AI engines disagree?

The AI engines disagree materially on brand naming rates. Each engine returned 138 answers. Perplexity, ChatGPT, and Claude had retrieval evidence for all 138 answers, while Gemini had retrieval evidence for 137 of 138 answers. Differences can reflect each system's model and retrieval tool, rather than a universal measure of brand visibility.

Yale Appliance is the sharpest single-engine pattern. Gemini named Yale Appliance in 58% of its 138 answers, while Perplexity named it in 2.2%, ChatGPT in 5.8%, and Claude in 2.9%. J.D. Power appeared in 20.3% of Gemini answers and 9.4% of ChatGPT answers, but not in Perplexity or Claude answers. Samsung's strongest engine was ChatGPT at 81.2%, while Claude named it in 13%.

Other gaps point in different directions. Fisher & Paykel reached 26.1% in Perplexity but 11.6% in ChatGPT, 12.3% in Gemini, and 5.1% in Claude. Midea Group reached 13% in Perplexity but 2.2% in ChatGPT and Gemini, and 0.7% in Claude. Café reached 17.4% in Perplexity, 13.8% in Gemini, 3.6% in Claude, and 2.2% in ChatGPT. Haier Group and Hisense Group were absent from Claude's 138 answers.

Claude named the leading generalist brands less often than Perplexity and ChatGPT. GE appeared in 34.8% of Claude answers, Whirlpool Corporation in 24.6%, LG in 26.1%, and Bosch in 35.5%. These are engine-level results for the measured questions, not a claim about all appliance searches.

Which brands lead each type of appliance question?

Demand clusters show where brand naming is strongest within the measured question groups. The cluster results separate general buyer-intent questions from more specific appliance needs, so the groups should not be read as interchangeable measures of demand.

For general buyer-intent questions, the cluster view identifies the brands most often brought into broad selection discussions. For appliance-specific needs, the same chart identifies brands that surface when the question narrows. A strong cluster result is a prompt-set result, not evidence that a brand leads every refrigerator, dishwasher, range, or built-in microwave decision.

Which sites supply the citations?

Owned-domain citations were uneven. Yale Appliance had a 54.6% owned-domain citation rate among 551 answers with retrieval evidence. J.D. Power followed at 14%, while LG had 12.7%. Among the leading appliance brands, LG's owned-domain rate was higher than Samsung at 3.6%, Whirlpool Corporation at 3.3%, KitchenAid at 2.7%, Frigidaire at 0.2%, and Miele at 0.2%.

Third-party publishers carried much of the cited evidence. ConsumerReports.org appeared in 52.3% of answers with retrieval evidence, followed by blog.yaleappliance.com at 35.8%, Reviewed.com at 31.2%, and YouTube.com and Reddit.com at 23.2% each. The pattern means a brand can be named often without having its own site cited often.

ConsumerReports.org had 288 cited mentions, while blog.yaleappliance.com had 197 and Reviewed.com had 172. These rates use 551 answers with retrieval evidence as the denominator.

Which brands are winning and which are at risk?

Winning measured positions

GE is in the leading group with a 61.6% appearance rate and presence across all four engines. Whirlpool Corporation, LG, Bosch, and Samsung are also in that leading group at 58.3%, 57.1%, 55.8%, and 51.4%, respectively, though their confidence intervals overlap with GE's interval. Bosch's 3.8 average first mention position is early within the top group. LG's 12.7% owned-domain citation rate is the strongest among these leading appliance brands.

At-risk measured positions

Yale Appliance has a narrow engine concentration: Gemini named it in 58% of answers, compared with 2.2%, 5.8%, and 2.9% on the other engines. Samsung has a 68.2-point spread between ChatGPT at 81.2% and Claude at 13%. Café appears in 9.2% of returned answers, and Viking in 9.1%. Galanz appears in 4.2%, with a 95% interval of 2.8% to 6.2%.

What does the tally say about major appliances?

The category has a crowded top tier and a steep drop after it. GE, Whirlpool Corporation, LG, Bosch, and Samsung all appear in more than half of returned answers, while Frigidaire and KitchenAid appear in the low forties. GE's 95% interval overlaps those of ranks two through five, so the available sample does not separate the top brand from that group.

The engines converge on the presence of many brands but not on frequency. GE, Whirlpool Corporation, LG, Bosch, Samsung, Frigidaire, KitchenAid, Miele, Sub-Zero Group, Maytag, Thermador, Yale Appliance, Fisher & Paykel, Café, Viking, Electrolux Group, JennAir, Wolf, Gaggenau, Amana, Midea Group, and Galanz each had 100% cross-engine consistency. Haier Group and Hisense Group had 75%, while J.D. Power had 50%.

Citations favor publishers outside brand-owned sites. ConsumerReports.org, blog.yaleappliance.com, Reviewed.com, YouTube.com, and Reddit.com each appeared in at least 23.2% of answers with retrieval evidence. Among brands named in the brief, Galanz was measured at 4.2% appearance. No other named brand from the brief was measured near zero.

What changed during the measurement window?

The measurement records one fielded window, not changes over time. It shows engine-level divergence, including Yale Appliance's 58% Gemini appearance rate and lower rates on the other engines, but it does not measure a before-and-after shift.

What actions address the measured gaps?

  • Brands with high appearance and 0% owned-domain citation rates should audit the pages behind refrigerator, dishwasher, range, and built-in microwave claims. Re-measure their owned-domain citation rate across answers with retrieval evidence.
  • GE and Bosch should test whether their 0% owned-domain citation rates change after their product and comparison pages make sourceable claims easier to locate. Re-measure both citation rate and share of all citations.
  • Samsung should examine the gap between ChatGPT at 81.2% and Claude at 13%. Re-measure by engine after updating the same product-selection evidence across its own pages.
  • Yale Appliance should test whether its 54.6% owned-domain citation rate remains concentrated in Gemini, where it appears in 58% of answers. Re-measure engine-level appearance and citation rates separately.
  • Frigidaire and KitchenAid should test whether their lower Gemini and Claude appearance rates rise from 27.5% and 13.8% for Frigidaire, and 27.5% and 15.2% for KitchenAid. Re-measure the same engine cells after changes.
  • Café, Viking, and Galanz should identify the demand clusters where they are absent or rarely named. Re-measure their cluster appearance after publishing pages that answer those measured selection questions.

What does this mean for brands in the category?

Interpretation: major appliance visibility in these answers depends on both broad brand naming and the source material each engine selects. A high overall appearance rate does not guarantee an owned citation. A high owned-domain citation rate can also be concentrated in one engine, as Yale Appliance's engine pattern shows.

Interpretation: brands need separate scorecards for answer appearance, first mention position, engine spread, cluster performance, and owned-domain citations. Treating any one metric as a complete view would hide the differences present in this measurement.

How was this major appliance visibility measured?

This flagship study measured 46 prompts three times across Perplexity (sonar-pro), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), and Claude (Anthropic). The study returned 552 answers. Appearance rates use 552 returned answers as the denominator. Citation and source rates use 551 answers with retrieval evidence as the denominator.

Measurement summary

How this study was measured

  • Sampling frame fixed first: 46 prompts allocated across the demand clusters before anything was asked.
  • Same questions put to every engine: Perplexity (sonar-pro), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), Claude (Anthropic), 3 trial(s) each.
  • 552 answers returned of 552 attempted, 551 with retrieval evidence.
  • Product lines rolled up to parent brands using a registry fixed before scoring.
  • Appearance rate reported with a 95% Wilson interval; citation metrics counted only on answers with evidence.

The measurement captures these prompts on the recorded date, not all consumer selection behavior or all appliance searches. Brand names were rolled up where the measured tally identified variants. The results describe naming and cited sources, not product quality or consumer demand.
