  • Yap/yapper/yapping: When someone is chatting about nothing, often with friends. You can also be a yapper.
  • NPC: originating from a video game term meaning “non-player character” (a character run by the computer/game), Gen Z now uses the term as an insult to refer to someone who lacks independent thinking.

  • But I Just Can’t Date A Dude With A…: Playing into Kesha’s musical comeback, people use this sound to share attributes they dislike in a potential partner.
  • You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me: Set to Taylor Swift’s new song “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?”, people are using this lyric to share something they went through that made them tougher, such as a previous job, school, etc.”
