Stanford GSB scored 94.5 out of 100 in the 5W AI Business School Index 2026 — 2.5 points clear of MIT Sloan and 18× the median on AI coursework alone.
Here is why.
~36 AI-Integrated Courses
Stanford GSB's 2025–26 course catalog lists approximately 36 courses with substantial AI content — named AI courses, AI-integrated electives, and cross-listed offerings with the School of Engineering, HAI, and d.school. The median school in our 60-school universe offers 2.
That is not a gap. That is an 18× structural separation.
No other M7 school comes close on raw course count. Wharton (96 on D1) has the AI for Business major. Kellogg (94 on D1) has the MBAi and AI Foundations. Stanford has neither a named AI degree nor a required AI course — but it has more AI curriculum than anyone.
The HAI Adjacency
Stanford's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence sits next to the GSB — literally and structurally. HAI bridges the business school to SAIL (Stanford AI Lab), the d.school, and Engineering. GSB students cross-register into HAI-affiliated courses. Faculty hold joint appointments.
No other business school has a comparable institutional bridge to a dedicated AI research institute of this scale.
The AI Alumni Pipeline
Stanford GSB scored 96 on D2 (AI-Founder & Executive Alumni) — the highest in our universe. The school's AI founder count, measured by Crunchbase and PitchBook data, leads all 60 schools. The VC raised by GSB-affiliated AI founders is the largest single-school total in our data.
Dimension-Level Scores
D1 (AI Curriculum Integration): 98 — highest of any school. ~36 AI-integrated courses.
D2 (AI-Founder & Executive Alumni): 96 — deepest AI founder pipeline.
D3 (Corporate AI Partnerships): 95 — HAI, SAIL, hyperscaler agreements.
D4 (Executive AI Education): 94 — "Harnessing AI for Breakthrough Innovation" and related programs.
D5 (AI Research Output): 92 — business-applicable AI publications, case studies.
D6 (AI Citation Share): 96 — highest in 3,000 prompt-engine runs across five AI engines.
The One Thing Stanford Doesn't Have
No named AI degree credential. No AI MBA major (Wharton has one). No standalone AI degree (Kellogg has one). Stanford leads on infrastructure, not on credentialing. The question for Edition Two: does HAI formalize into a joint degree?
What This Means
Stanford GSB's position at #1 is driven by depth — more AI courses, more AI founders, more institutional infrastructure, more citation density inside the AI engines than any peer. The constraint is structural: the school has not credentialized what it clearly already teaches.
The school that combines Stanford's depth with Wharton's credentialing will set the standard for the next generation of business education.
